Director of Marketing – Huntington Theatre Company (Boston, MA)

The Huntington Theatre Company seeks a Director of Marketing at this pivotal point in its history, having recently announced a major renovation to the Huntington Avenue Theatre, and charted an independent course following its longtime relationship with Boston University. In addition to the ambitious sales objectives of a major LORT theatre, the Director of Marketing will have an influential leadership role in the evolution of the Huntington brand and its continued presence as a cultural leader in the region. The Director of Marketing will lead a team of six internal staff (four direct reports), as well as marketing and design vendors, in the successful execution of marketing and sales campaigns supporting its subscription campaign and seven individual productions annually. Annual ticket sales goals range from $5-6 million depending on season programming, with over 200,000 audience members served across all Huntington venues each year. Reporting to Managing Director Michael Maso, the role works closely with departments including Artistic, Development, Public Affairs, Production, General Management, Education, Audience Services, and more.

About the Huntington Theatre Company

The Huntington Theatre Company is Boston’s leading professional theatre and one of the region’s premier cultural assets since its founding in 1982. Under the direction of Artistic Director Peter DuBois and Managing Director Michael Maso, the Huntington cultivates, celebrates, and champions theatre as an art form. Recipient of the 2013 Regional Theatre Tony Award, the Huntington brings together superb local and national talent and produces a mix of groundbreaking new works and classics made current to create award-winning productions, serving 200,000 audience members at its two facilities each season.

The Huntington runs nationally renowned programs in education and new play development and serves the local theatre community through its operation of the Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts. A leader in the development of new plays, the Huntington has produced more than 100 New England, American, or world premiere plays to date. It supports local writers through its new playwright-in-residency and the Huntington Playwriting Fellows program, the cornerstones of its new work activities. Through a diverse and impacting range of nationally renowned education and community programs, the Huntington serves 33,000 young people and underserved audiences each year.

The Huntington has long been an anchor cultural institution of Huntington Avenue, the Avenue of the Arts, and will remain so on a permanent basis. Under the terms of an agreement with the City of Boston and real estate developer QMG Huntington, the Huntington recently assumed sole ownership of the 890-seat Huntington Avenue Theatre. It is in the nucleus phase of a major comprehensive fundraising campaign designed to refurbish and expand the Huntington Avenue Theatre into a fully-updated, modern venue and to expand the company’s services to audiences, artists, and the community. The Huntington previously built the multiple-venue Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts in 2004, and operates it as a home for its new works activities and as a much-needed resource for other arts organizations serving the local cultural community.
