The Victoria Theatre Association, one of Ohio's premier arts organizations, invites applications and referrals for the position of President and CEO.

BACKGROUND AND CURRENT ENVIRONMENT

One of Ohio's premier arts organizations, the Victoria Theatre Association presents more than 430 performances annually for audiences of all ages, operates and maintains three major arts facilities and the Arts Garage, and additionally serves its community with thriving events that include a restaurant and catering business in downtown Dayton.

The Association manages three major facilities: the historic and fully restored 152-year-old Victoria Theatre (1154 seats), The Metropolitan Arts Center/ Loft Theatre (212 seats) and the state of the art Schuster Performing Arts Center, designed by Cesar Pelli and opened in 2003. The $80 Million Schuster Center is comprised of the 2015 seat Mead theatre, the 100-seat black box Mathile Theatre, the Wintergarden Atrium, and the Citilites restaurant/bar which is open weekdays for lunch and show evenings for dinner. The three facilities together provide performance and/or office and rehearsal space for a variety of cultural partners including the Dayton Performing Arts Association (DPAA) comprised of the Dayton Opera, Dayton Ballet and The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra; the Human Race Theatre Company and the Muse Machine.

With an annual budget of approximately $16.3 Million, the VTA programs the Premier Health Broadway Series, Projects Unlimited Star Attractions, National Geographic Live!, sponsored by Subaru, the Discovery Series, the Morris Furniture Co. Family Series, the Cool Films Series, and many additional community and private events. Last year more than 420,000 people attended events hosted by the VTA, its resident companies, and others. The VTA also provides many shared services with its local partners including combined ticketing operations. More than 600 volunteers last year provided more than 60,000 hours at VTA events representing $675,000 worth of donated labor. The VTA has a staff of 164, of which 64 are full time, and is governed by a Board of 19.

Additionally, the VTA has pioneered several programs in the community including Art F.O.R.C.E., designed to help military spouses and children, and Home Town Heroes to provide an arts experience to the men and women actively serving in the military, especially at nearby Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. In 2017 the VTA produced its first sensory friendly performance of The Cat in the Hat designed for children with an autism spectrum disorder and others with special needs. This year the VTA is partnering with Dayton Children's Hospital to provide more sensory friendly shows.

With a vision to enrich the lives, learning and leisure of the community through the performing arts, VTA, with its supporting organization the Arts Center Foundation, purses its mission to strengthen the economic and artistic vitality of the community at large and its arts partners through presenting high-quality, diverse arts experiences and through the stewardship of its performance venues. The VTA also is nearing the end of the Next Stage Campaign which was intended to build the endowment for the preservation of the community assets. To date over $13 Million has been raised to put toward current use projects and to help build the endowment. Currently the endowment sits around $15 Million.

Additionally, construction is about to commence on a project that will transform a chronically vacant storefront at the corner of Ludlow and Second Streets in downtown Dayton into usable, creative space - The Arts Annex. With unique gathering, learning and performance spaces, the Arts Annex will be a center of creative activity featuring arts education programs, special events, and performances presented by the VTA and other arts and community organizations.

POSITION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The President serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Victoria Theatre Association (VTA) and the Arts Center Foundation, providing executive leadership and management, and is responsible for the effective administration of both corporations in accordance with the polices set forth by the Board of Trustees. Currently the President and CEO has seven direct reports encompassing the management of the entire organization.

The President and CEO provides full oversight of the organization-wide strategies including strategic planning, Board governance, financial stability, community engagement, programming and staff management.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Build upon the foundation laid by VTA's previous leadership and help take the organization to its next level of achievement.
• Oversee, guide and direct all activities at VTA, including people, programming, full P& L responsibility, and facilities.
• In conjunction with the development staff and Board, continue to build and execute a strategic and comprehensive fund-raising program that will support the operating and capital needs of the institution for the present and the long term.
• Fully engage the Board of Directors, providing support so that their efforts may best sustain the organization.
• Be a collaborative, team leader of the VTA staff and facilitate an environment in which the staff can do their best work.
• Be an articulate champion both for the VTA and for the continued vitalization of downtown Dayton
• Actively seek new business development opportunities, community partnerships, and revenue streams.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will:

• Be a dynamic and entrepreneurial leader with a through grounding in performing arts, facility management and arts programming.
• Be a strategic and visionary manager with excellent analytic, financial, and organizational skills.
• Have a proven track record of successful fund raising and community engagement.
• Possess superb writing and oral communication skills.
• Have excellent staff management skills and an ability to deal authentically, humanely, and wisely with a broad spectrum of personalities.
• Possess political savvy, diplomacy, warmth, and a strong commitment to diversity.
• Have a passion for the performing arts, a genuine belief in VTA's mission and the important role cultural institutions play in the life of a vibrant community, and the ability to articulate this mission and role to others.
• Past experience in labor negotiations and a knowledge of ancillary businesses and shared service situations such as parking, catering and ticketing is desirable.
• A minimum of ten years of not for profit facility management experience, including budget development and leadership of senior staff, is mandatory. A Baccalaureate degree is required, though a postgraduate degree in either the arts or business is preferred.
